Experiments regarding crossing places for pedestrians are to be brought into operation in London shortly. The Minister of Transport proposes to lay down the necessary markings at one hundred separate junctions representing 270 crossings. The majority of these experimental crossings will be in Westminster. There will also be some in Holborn, St. Pancras, Stepney, and Poplar.
There will be no attempt to enforce the regulations at the experimental crossings until the authorities have first of all satisfied themselves that the experiment is a success. After a trial period permanent regulations will be brought into operation and enforced where necessary by prosecution and fine.
